Today, Year 6 visited St Chad's Cathedral to learn about it's history and it's significance to the Catholic faith. We then celebrated Mass, where one of our pupils supported in her role as alter server. It was a wonderful experience and has helped us as we begin the Jubilee Year as Pilgrims of Hope.
Over the last few weeks, the children have taken inspiration from chocolate bar wrapper designs to create their own. They cut shapes from felt and used blanket stitch to sew the sides together before filling it with stuffing. They are looking forward to sharing their final products at an exhibition on Friday 8th November.
Today, the children have used watercolours to create paintings of fields of poppies, as part of our work on Remembrance Day.
Here is a beautiful prayer written by one of our Year 6 pupils, who felt compelled to write after our Celebration of the Word last week.
What an amazing experience the children have had... visiting the UK Houses of Parliament, where they were taken on a tour inside the grand building hearing more about the building, it's history and the work that happens inside. Luckily they were able to watch the House of Lords and the House of Commons in session from the viewing gallery.
Did you know the clock tower that houses Big Ben (the famous bell) is called, the Elizabeth Tower? For more information - ask the children!
Next, they learned even more about the work of the members of parliament through a fun workshop.
After lunch, they enjoyed and a cruise along the River Thames - bringing to life what they had learned previously about significant rivers of the world. Finally, they went on the London Eye from where they could spot famous landmarks in London.
It was a fabulous day and they children learned so much.
