St Anne's Catholic Primary School

"Love one another as I have loved you in our home, school and Parish family"

Maths

Aims:

The national curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all St. Anne's pupils:

  • Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time.  We want our pupils to develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
  • Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language.
  • Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.

Curriculum statement for the teaching and learning of Maths

At St. Anne's Catholic Primary School, we are committed to providing our children with a curriculum which has a clear intention, is implemented to the highest standards and impacts positively upon their learning outcomes.   We are committed to providing a rich and vibrant curriculum which has a clear intention, is ambitious and accessible for all learners and impacts by equipping the children with the necessary skills and knowledge to develop a love of learning.   We use 'White Rose' schemes of learning to support us.  We also access materials from NRICH and NCETM websites.  We continue to work closely with our Local Maths Hub to develop and sustain our mathematical practice.  KS1 deliver a Mastering Number programme,  which aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense.  KS2 also deliver a mastering Number Programme, which aims to help children develop fluency in multiplication and division facts, and a confidence and flexibility with number that exemplifies good number sense.
